With over 12 miles of shoreline surrounded by the San Juan National Forest, Vallecito Lake offers outstanding recreational activities.

Fishing

Vallecito Lake provides easy fishing for the entire family, with rainbow trout, brown trout and northern pike. Nearby Lost Pinos River offers 50 miles of backcountry fly fishing at its finest. Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Northern Pike, Brook Trout, Kokane Salmon, and Walleye - you will find them all, along with exquisite scenery.

Boating

Sheltered in a mountain valley 8,000 feet above sea level, Vallecito Lake is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. Rent a fishing boat, pontoon, kayak or canoe from one of the local marinas and spend a day on the water.

Geocaching

Our area is very popular with geocachers. Use our free WI-FI to find your coordinates, pack a picnic lunch and explore the back roads.

Horseback Riding

Start your day with a cowboy breakfast ride or end it with a scenic sunset ride along Vallecito Lake and its surrounding wilderness. Several stables in the area can get you saddled up for a true Colorado-style adventure.

Hiking or Biking

Take an easy stroll or bike along the shores of beautiful Vallecito Lake. A few miles north is the Weminuche Wilderness, three quarters of the size of Rhode Island and Colorado’s largest wilderness area. You can spend days hiking its 500 miles of trails while viewing mountain peaks that rise above 14,000 feet.
